David Liebowitz has been an investment professional for over 33 years.
Prior to founding Aroya Capital LP, Mr. Liebowitz served Bear Stearns in a number of capacities from 1983 to 2005. The common thread of his experience was his involvement in proprietary trading during his entire 22 years career at Bear – initially Risk Arbitrage and then Convertible Arbitrage for many years. Over the course of his career at Bear he managed as much as $4 billion of proprietary capital as well as $1.4 billion of client assets. In 1993 Mr. Liebowitz was elected to the Board of Directors of The Bear Stearns Companies, Inc., serving as a director until 2001.
After becoming convinced that the convertible arbitrage market was too crowded and too levered, Mr. Liebowitz wound down both the Bear global convertible proprietary portfolio as well as the Bear Global Convertible Fund. Client assets were returned in June 2005.
Mr. Liebowitz left Bear Stearns in October of 2005. From 2006 - 2010 he exclusively managed family assets. From 2010 to 2012, he co-managed a $200+ million asset proprietary portfolio for Mariner Investment Group. It was in 2013 that Mr. Liebowitz established Aroya Capital LP with a strategy focus on relative value equity volatility arbitrage.
Mr. Liebowitz earned a BS degree (1980) and an MBA with a concentration in finance (1983) from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Mr. Liebowitz currently serves as a member of the Board of Overseers of New York University School of Arts & Science.
